Raikoji Temple

Raikoji temple is also known as Ajisai-dera or "The hydrangea temple" which was built by Gen Ken Sozu (childhood name: Bijomaru) at the request of Minamoto-no-Mitsunaka's wife, Honyoni. In the rainy season, about five hundred hydrangea bushes are in full bloom, enveloping the temple in shades of blue, pink and purple. Originally, the Kawanishi Tourist Association donated one hundred hydrangea bushes when the temple's main building was rebuilt in 1974.
Now, Thanks to the monks' gentle care, hydrangea bloom everywhere we look.
