Hirano Mineral Spring

This natural spring was introduced in Meiji 14 (1881), as one of the finest mineral springs in Japan. The spring water was bottled as a beverage and marketed under the brand name "Hirano sui" or "Hirano water". It is said that this water was the first carbonated drink available in Japan. The biggest soft drink factory in the Eastern Hemisphere during the Taisho era was actually located in the district north of Hirano Station, where the spring water was processed and eventually marketed as "Mitsuya saida" (Mitsuya pop soda). There is now a shop standing where the old factory used to be, but a part of the factory, the reservoir and a room for filtering the water still remain.

Transportation

Take Nose Railway to Hirano station and walk 400m to the north.
